Program Information

Our Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Program began on July 1, 2024, obtaining its initial accreditation by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) since April 5, 2024.

The Program consists of three years of training in the specialty of Cardiology and with an enrollment of two (2) fellows per level.

The Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship Program has a group of attendings who provide support and excellent education to fellows. Our program that requires scientific research during the three years and we will offer you the necessary tools and guides to achieve these goals.

 

Our Mission

  • Prepare cardiologist outstanding in all six ACGME competencies, giving our fellows a strong base to practice high quality Cardiology.
  • Maintain a culture of fellow and faculty wellness, including fellow and faculty support, mentorship; addressing aspects of well-being which includes physical, emotional, and social well-being to ensure a work-life balance during their three-year training.
  • Provide an intensive educational environment with a diversity of clinical settings which promote compassion, progressive responsibility, medical ethics, professionalism, graduated autonomy, and team based collaborative care.
  • Encouraging the majority of our fellows to practice in our island upon completing their training in order to provide high quality care to underprivileged communities.

Curriculum

Our program consists of three years of training in Cardiology. During their training, fellows receive an important exposure in rotations, such as:

  • Consults
  • Non Invasive Studies (Echocardiography, Holter, Stress Testing)
  • Transesophageal Echocardiography
  • Cardiac Catheterization & Interventional Procedures
  • Coronary & Surgical Intensive Care Units
  • Cardiac Imaging (Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, Nuclear Cardiology)
  • Research
  • Electrophysiology
  • Elective Rotation
  • Adult Congenital Heart Disease
  • Heart Failure & Structural Heart Disease
  • Outpatient Cardiology Continuity Clinic
